Living in Wyoming there are not a lot of POC people, and subjects young kids to racist comments. Adults around here tell jokes that make fun of other races and put white people above all others. But the sickening trend is just not in Wyoming, it’s all over the US. Teenagers here are taught through example that whites are superior to other races and that we can make fun of them. No. This frame of mind is dangerous and cruel. Many times in such a small town major racial problems are noticed for a small amount of time, but then buried away with the rest of news that is no where near here. The struggle in Ferguson is still going on, and it has been swept under the carpet like everything else. Many people living in Ferguson, Missouri have suffered the effects of tear gas and violent responses to their peaceful protests. No one cares anymore, but it’s still happening all the same. Recently; there was and Ebola scare, and lots of kids in the high school were worried about getting it. Now it’s a funny joke of the past. Now, that is just a human reflex to horrible things; such as the common phrase “grammar nazi”. We, as humans, use jokes and silly phrases to calm the mood about frightening things that happen to us and around us. But Ebola jokes are not funny. Thousands of humans have died because of disease that seems like it came right out of a horror book.
