I think that training professionals on the topic of diversity is not enough, but also specialized training in the topic of the LGBTQ community will help school counselors have better relationships with their students thus making it known that they are a safe space to come and talk to. It’s important to implement programs that are taught at every level so students who do and don’t identify as LGBTQ can learn about their classmates and neighbors and build stronger communication skills leading to better relationships.
