Reflective Essay On Diversity And Multiculturalism

Our world is made up of many different cultures and diversities, which keep evolving. Though it is up to every individual how they will react to different cultures and diversities. Which over time our society has become more accepting of different races but there are still some inequalities that still arise. When reflecting on our reading over “Diversity and Multiculturalism” it made me realize how much our society in general has changed to become more understanding of others differences and similarities. When reflecting on my own experiences and philosophy on diversity and multiculturalism within my own life, I have retained such a greater understanding of their actual meanings. In my own life I have quite a diverse family, which only develop around ten years ago when my sister gave birth to my nephew, who is half black and half white. Though we don’t have much diversity but the little we have seems to flourish and be welcomed because society is changing and kids learn to connect to others not by skin color but by interests. More people need to grasp this concept and understand that diversity is great within a school because students learn that they are no different from each other. This also helps create equality within our school, let alone the world. By allowing a diverse classroom it allows multiculturalism to prosper. Which then established a diverse learning atmosphere for all students to allow them to help shape each other’s individual potential. Though without multiculturalism within schools many school districts will find it challenging to adapt a curriculum that best suites all individuals needs and therefore this would be a detrimental to our education system because we need to adapt for all diversities just not certain ones.
