Diversity and Global Awareness

To me diversity means a variety of perspectives of life. For this diversity and global awareness assignment I visited a nursing home and interacted with the residents. Visiting a nursing home is completely different from other events that I would normally attend. Not only are the people that reside there a different age but there are also other factors, like illness and diverse cultures that differ between the residents and I. Throughout this paper I will reflect on my experience and how it has impacted my life.
The nursing home that I decided to visit is named Lima Manor Nursing Home. I have been to this nursing home several times before for school and I recently had a relative that was staying there. Although I have visited this nursing home multiple times this is the first time that observed it as an institution that contains people of diverse backgrounds. The people in this particular nursing home are either being rehabilitated, learning how to walk again after surgery for example, or they permanently stay there. For most residents their ages were sixty and up I would assume. This is a complete contrast with me because we grew up in different eras so some of their outlooks on life are completely different then how …show more content…
That is going to be the hardest part for me because I am an emotionally, empathetic person. As a person going into this experience observing diversity and global awareness I have learned to be more thankful for what I have now and my family. In addition to I have also learned to be patient and enjoy life now. I have my whole life to complete my career goals but if I only focus on that I will miss out on opportunities that makes life great and that I can look back on if I’m blessed to see the age of the residents I spoke
