Diverse Interactions In The Workplace

Improved Essays
I am able to get along well with everyone I meet. I listen intently to what others have to say and put myself into their position. A few examples of diverse interactions I have experienced are through my job at Scheels, volunteering at Country Manor Nursing Home, We Day, volleyball, and softball. For instance, I helped serve a diverse group of individuals at a local nursing home by playing cards and talking with the residence. From these experiences, I have grown as an individual by being more understanding and aware of the differences of all people. Moreover, I would like to expand my work to involve more diverse groups. Likewise, I plan on accomplishing this by joining many clubs such as Pre-Medicine Club and a club focused on sports. These

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

One of the most impactful moments of my young College experience was the result of one of my College Professors. She grew up where there was very little diversity, moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan at the young age of seven-teen, where she first experienced diversity. From her I learned, my many experiences of being open to people from different cultures and ethnicities are apart of why I am comfortable with all people from different backgrounds, and able to thrive in any environment or situation for which I am…

In order to examine diversity in today’s workplace, we must first look at the history of diversity and its place within the workplace. Over the past couple of decades, diversity in the workplace has been an increasing norm, which is visible in many companies. However, today’s definition of diversity has a completely different meaning than what diversity might have meant twenty or so years ago. Throughout the early days of business, when companies began creating initiatives for diversity, the focus was on African Americans and other minorities.…

I became involved with Hospice in June of 2011 after my swim coach Keith Furey came to the end of his 10-year battle with cancer and was home with Hospice care. I have founded, and am president of the Nyack High School chapter named “Teens for Hospice” that is a satellite group of “Youth for Hospice” of which I am also a member. I want to continue to bring awareness to my fellow student body and Teens of Rockland County, about how we can contribute, support and help this specialized team of people who give choice, dignity, courage, and hope to people and continue to educate them that every little bit of effort counts, to make a difference, and that they can be part of a even bigger picture. I want to establish a club that will remain in place after I graduate, to continue fundraising, and be there as a support group for kids in families who are dealing with a serious illness in our school and community. Most of all to let kids know what Hospice is really about, unless they have had first hand experience in their lives most are ignorant to what it is, the services it offers, the comfort it brings, and the fun ways to raise money for such a worthy cause, for example Dance a thon, Haunt for Hospice, Hugs for Hospice, Bounce for Hospice and many…

DeVany identified the fifteen roles that leaders play in order to manage performance and accountability of a team and its members. However, based on experience, one can believe that when working in any specific team environment, the manager cannot conceivably play all these roles at an effective level. Instead, if a team is well organized, the members of the team are also tasked with taking on some of these roles and responsibilities. The first part of managing a team with diverse personalities is knowing which personalities complement each other and the team.…

I watched an episode of The Office for this assignment. I chose this one because I remember when it came out there was a lot of hype around how good this series was. I don’t watch a great deal of television, but decided this would be a suitable time to finally see what all the talk was about. The Episode I watched was on diversity where Michael Scott, the office manager for Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, holds his own version of what diversity training should be. The show is a spoof on what life is like in an office in America where a camera crew documents the behaviors that go on in the office.…
