I have experienced how it feels being in two different cultures, I lived in India for most of my life with my grandparents and when I came here and went to school it was a culture shock. In India I had to wear a uniform to school everyday and had to be very carefull if i was wearing any accessories, or nail paint. However here in America I did not have to worry about getting my uniform ready or having any jewelry on I could do whatever I wanted, and wear what I desired. Although, I had a tough time adjusting to the school system, I quickly figured out how to speak up and made a diverse group of friends. When I came to the school many kids anticipated that I had never been to America or that I had never spoken English, but as I walked in confident on my first day of school kids watched astonished that I could speak English. …show more content…
I mentioned to the kids that the school I came from, is one that requires english to be spoken in the school. Additionally, I talked about Diwali the festival of lights that i celebrated and still celebrate here with abundance of fireworks. In a sum I was curious about the American culture and asked my new friends numerous questions. This gave me a chance to discover the cultures about me and give insight on my culture. Diversity has become an important part of my life it gives me pleasure to talk about my roots and learn about other nationalities.
