In the beginning of the book my theme statement starts to evolve but isn’t very strong. The first clue of my theme statement was when Tris goes out of her comfort zone but cutting herself and dropping blood into the bowl for dauntless. The second clue was when Tris jumped out of the train and off the building, because if she didn’t then she would become factionless. The next piece of evidence that I found was when Tris had to go stand in front of a knife throwing target and she had to stay still. If she moved then she was kicked out of dauntless. Four then threw knives at her and cut off a chunk of her ear. When Tris had to stand in front of the target to protect a friend, she was showing a lot of bravery because she didn’t want her friend to get kicked out of dauntless. Later on, Tris was training and had to fight someone, she was beat up and was unable to do thing and was in the dauntless “hospital”. At that point she was kicked out of dauntless and was factionless. She heard the train leaving and got up and ran and jumped on the train. When she was beat up she sucked it up and continued to work hard.
At the end of Divergent my theme has completely developed. Erudit wants abnegation gone and puts dauntless together to kill them. All of the dauntless put together and they were all mind controlled but Tris and Four were not and they went up against erudit. Also Tris’s mom was shot right in front of her fighting with her and Tris had to leave he mom and had to continue to fight erudit. Tris has become a whole new person and isn’t afraid of anything.
