Divergent Movie And Book Comparison Essay

The book I decided to read is ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth. I thought it may be an interesting novel to read, considering I’ve only seen the movie, and I could make comparisons and contrasts between the movie and the novel. Divergent is a fiction book, set in the dystopian future of Chicago that is divided into five factions. Each faction places value solely on one specific virtue. At the age of 16, every citizen must choose which faction they wish to join for the rest of their lives. ‘Divergent’ tells the story of a teenage girl named Beatrice Prior. The five factions in the dystopian future of Chicago are Abnegation, the selfless, Candor, the honest, Amity, the peaceful, Erudite, the intelligent and Dauntless, the brave. When the day of the aptitude tests come, the test telling you what faction you belong …show more content…
She takes a brutal beating from Peter and ends up in the hospital. A few days after the incident, the initiates embark on a field trip to play a game of paintball capture the flag. Four chooses Tris as the first player on his team, regardless of her reputation as weak and vulnerable. She succeeds to change her reputation slightly by climbing an old ferris wheel and being the bravest on her team. The next day, Tris proceeds to stand up to her friend, Al, and as punishment must stand in front of a target as Four, instructed by the cruler trainor Eric, throws knives meer inches away from her face. Tris was left angry and confused as to why Four purposely nicked her ear with the knife, since they were beginning to become friends. So far, I would say that the novel is significantly better than the film, containing more detail in the storyline. I am able to imagine visually the details of the book. My personal opinion is that this story is very unpredictable and suspenseful, and I would recommend it to any readers who enjoy stories of this

Although we have not finish watching the movie completely, as of now, I favor the book over the movie. I find many of the major aspects in the book lost within the movie. First of all, the movie is has no first person narrator. The main character still remains as McMurphy but the significance of Chief Bromden is lost. He is played out as a minor character in the movie.…

The movie is very different from the book because sometimes in the book they include more details than in the movie. In the movies they spend a lot of time filming everything and sometimes one scene takes all day to film. In the book is something similar but not too much because in the book they take time to write everything and then to convert it into a book but what do you think. Something that they have in common is that they are written by the same author and it take place in the same year, but this is not always because sometimes they film the movie years after the book.…

To begin with, the novel starts out in the countryside of Colorado and later transfers to a fictional city named Tabula Rasa. Tabula Rasa is a city much like Las Vegas only with fewer restrictions. You can liken the future’s difference from the nineteen-eighties to the present.…

I think that the movie is better than the book because the movie has more light and there is music. And the book does not have light or music you have to make a picture in your mind. They are alike because they both say the same things. It seems an unfair view to expect a movie about a book to be exactly the same down to every single detail. Communities of fans will always find something wrong with a story, for it has “failed” to match expectation. Books are a place where someone can be dragged into the story and forget about everything else for a short while. Movies do the exact same thing, except it is seen as an easier way than books for a lot of people. Ignoring obvious differences (such as the fact that one is in picture form, and the other is in words), movies and books may not be so different after all.…
