Book vs. Movie When a book gets changed into a movie, the it can easily become a completely different story, depending on the author or director. But the book itself never changes a word. After reading Divergent by Veronica Roth and going straight to watching the movie, it’s noticeable just how significant changes are, which inevitably happens in most movie adaptations. In the book one of the main characters “Four” is around the age of eighteen. Tris Prior in the book has six fears these include crows, loss of control, being kidnapped, burning alive, family death, and drowning (Roth 385-395). This is significant to the story due to it changing her level of rank. These factors keep Tris from being kicked out and forced to become factionless. Though in the movie Tris only has five; crows, drowning, hands reaching at her, killing her family members, and intimacy. Though there are these differences the movie does stay true to the book in a few ways. For example, the characters, though a little different are all in the movie in some way. Yes, there’s a few differences. Though there is less fears for Tris they stay true to Tobias’s fears of course it’s essential for him to only have four.
A book to a movie; it will either be the most amazing thing to ever happen, or it will be the absolute demise of an entire fanbase. An author can stay with their train of thoughts through and through and build a fanbase.
