If you dress differently, that’s a big red flag to the government. Some factions are looked down upon as unworthy, such as Abnegation and Amity. During the movie, Erudite was having conflicts with Abnegation because they believed that Abnegation is not fit to be the center of the government. They believed Erudite should be the central government and have control of the whole city. This led to Erudite striking again, and boy did they strike harder than ever before. The faction test enables the authorities to control the population and place the citizens where they belong. The factions are a symbolic enigma that show how the government rules itself as a utopian society. Without the factions, and the faction test, the government is left vulnerable. All the people who live in the utopia are like robots, who are meant to follow every rule in the rule book and be expected to follow every command. That is, for the Divergent, who will not stay in the criteria. They do not follow the rulebook, in fact, they break it. Anti-Utopias in Communistic and Capitalistic Societies Through human innovation and discovery, the world on which we live has developed from a molten rock of lava to a societal world were humans are speciesists and have created an anti-utopia. According to Webster Dictionary a Utopian Society, means an impossibly ideal society or way of life. To achieve this society people have to be happy no matter what happens, but they cannot be happy if they fear the alternative to their society. In Fahrenheit 451 by: Ray Bradbury, Harrison Bergeron by: Kurt Vonnegut and The Lottery by: Shirley Jackson, the society worked so hard to eliminate fear, Instead of achieving this they created a society where people were silenced, controlled, lost their individuality and had no opinions or thoughts of their own. People lost a sense of worth; making them cower into themselves and miss something, they could never quite place. The more they tried to create an ideal society the more they created a fearful…
