Steven Hawking was born on January 8th, 1942, in Oxford, England. Hawking has always shown a great interest in science and the sky, even at a very young age. He studied cosmology at the University of Cambridge. He has written several books throughout the years. Hawking was born into a family who did not have very much money. His Scottish mothers name was Isobel Hawking. She attended Oxford University at a time when it was rare for women to attend college in the 1930’s. His father, Frank Hawking, was also a graduate of Oxford University. He was a medical researcher that specialized in tropical diseases. Together Frank and Isobel had four children, with Stephen being the oldest. He had two sisters named Mary, who was born in 1943 and Philippa, who was born in 1947.
