In Distracted By Everything we see the children in Korea are encouraged to use the computer as early as the second grade. Mark Bauerlein a professor at Emory University wrote a book called “The Dumbest Generation” which says that children growing up are not performing academically at their highest potential because of the internet. “Teachers I have asked say they can’t assign a novel more than 200 pages!” Says Bauerlein because kids these days are too easily distracted and aren’t able to make students read lengthy novels. Going back to my media journalism class I remember when we had to create surveys for our website project. At the time I created the survey I hadn’t put much thought into which website I was going to use in order to produce it. After watching the documentary I have a better point of view on how people engage on the world wide web. For example, someone is less likely to take a survey if the face of the survey is a simple plain text versus an easy survey with questions people can relate to.

As I think about where I plan to go in my career I can relate the information that I have learned in this documentary in my professional life. I think Mit Professor Sherry Turkel says it best “ The internet is neither good or evil, it’s powerful”. It is up to everyone to use the internet for the good things it has to offer and not over obsess about staying engaged in the internet world when there is a healthy balance then it makes for a better society all
