Distorted Reflections We are the sum or our experiences. Finding out what type of writer you are is a journey. If you take a snapshot at different time during your development you can probably see the difference in how you right now verses how you wrote in the sixth grade. During that journey you discover what your capabilities are. When a student starts writing in school, there isn 't really any room for imagination or creativity; it is all about structure, discipline and what the teacher told you to write about. As a student rises through the grades they are provided the opportunity to let their thoughts roam and express them in a way that they haven 't been able to before in previous years. When you get to college, students are essentially given free range of thoughts and emotions and the professors want to see what they are capable of while still maintaining grammatical discipline. I have developed the ability to recognize my mistakes and do my best to improve them. I do not believe that I have been a bad writer in the past; if anything I have been stagnate and had the same problems for as long as I can remember. The only thing that has probably improved are my ideas and concepts and that has most likely come with maturity as I age. One thing I would like to explain, before the end of this essay, is that the title “Distorted Reflections” is used because of the difference in how I saw my writing before and how I see my writing now; how I didn 't possess that self-awareness. It also represents how I view my writing, and how others around me view my writing. Not everyone is going to see the same thing; Although, I believe a key to being an excellent writer is being able to have the audience interpret what was intended, but provoke different emotions in that reader.
