It isn’t just the Christmas season when all families choose to come together. With the onset of what looks to be a beautiful summer well on its way, birthday parties, garden BBQs and multiple summer weddings are sure to take place and give the perfect excuse for families to gather once again and spend some quality time in each other’s company. During this time, it’s not uncommon for the importance of family to be brought to our attention as we remember just how much we’ve missed each other. Naturally our thoughts move on to health, wellbeing and togetherness as we all revel in the emotions of long lost relationships and promises to see each other more often.

Considering the negative impact it can have on your wellbeing, this can only be a good thing especially with the findings from a university in the Netherlands which were particularly frightening. The University of Nijmegen discovered those who swam in chlorinated swimming pools or other such chlorinated water as children, were 2.4 times more likely to develop a melanoma. Now if chlorine can do this to you from simply swimming in it, surely it’s utter madness to ingest it? Never the less, we do on a daily basis and here’s just what it’s doing to us. Through in-depth research, the documented side effects of chlorine range from a much greater cancer risk, all the way through to weakened immune systems, tiredness, dizziness and headaches along with liver and kidney problems. When it comes to cancer specifically, studies have shown those who ingest chlorinated water are at a 93% higher risk than those who don’t. Research has even revealed that smokers who drank chlorinated water over the course of forty plus years were at double the risk of developing bladder cancer than smokers who drank non-chlorinated
