The cognitive dissonance between the careers I deem as interesting and the careers listed on the SDS report according to the SIC summary code of my interests is that individual more than likely suggest that values may have far more weight than interests, although the way in which each person prioritizes their own values might also determine why some occupations resonate more than others as well. As Reardon and colleagues (2017) explain, “a person’s system of values – that is, how compatible or harmonious several top values were with one another – was as important in career decisions as the person’s most important value” (p. 15).
