This continues to be a problem because the cost of living is increasing, birth rates are declining, and people are living longer (NOLO, n.d.). These factors put a strain on the funds available for the elderly. Unfortunately, the silver tsunami will also affect Medicare negatively. There will be an increase in chronic diseases that are a result of old age as well as dementia.
