Access to quality, affordable healthcare continues to be a problem facing millions of Americans, especially those who live in rural towns and underserved urban areas. The disparity in health equity is particularly pronounced in economically challenged neighborhoods, the elderly population and among people of color. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than 25% of adults living in the United States struggle to pay their medical expenses. This includes individuals who either buy their own insurance or get it through their employer.
