Disparity In America

I believe that every day we have the power to make the world into a better place. Whether it's by saying "please" or "thank you", recycling one can of soda, or just paying someone a compliment, these forms of kindness is what unify our community and inspire us to be good citizens. Growing up my father informed me that "In America, there are no such things as friends and life is always a competition." This was very puzzling to me as a child because I understood that competition is what drives our society forward, but I never accepted the fact that solidarity was the way to success. As I watched my cousin cry when they deported my uncle, I was challenged with the idea of law vs. morality. When there are thousands of people who wait patiently for entrance, his deportation didn’t haunt me. But viewing it through a different lens, most parents would do anything for their child to have a better life especially if the family is living in a developing country with no hope of success. As I saw tears run down her cheeks, the separation from their children was something most undocumented immigrants have to learn to deal with because they knew being an American was the best gift they could offer. When immigration came up in the Election of 2016, I realized most people generalized undocumented immigrants into two own categories: criminals or normal families. At that moment I wanted to major in Political Science because my goal is to unify our political parties and help make policies that will benefit families, our education system, teachers, basically our whole community. It maybe is a long shot or unrealistic but I choose to educate myself, never give up, and always have
