For example, in the same way that MS is unique for each individual, so is the veterans’ medical care and treatment options. Nurses’ assessment and identification of health care needs should occur to those affected by MS whenever there is a need for knowledge, wisdom, caring, leadership, practice, or education (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2015).
A health needs assessment of my community identified numerous health care needs and concerns of the local population, veterans with MS. Looking to the widest context of health and beyond the medical model alone, identified numerous needs including physical, mental, spiritual, and spiritual. However, the biopsychosocial model is a broad view of MS and varies across cultures.

In this community, many have a belief in God and profess to be Catholic, Protestant, or Baptist and can worship at nearby rural churches. Fortunately, clergy and laymen will often visit home-bound church members. Several studies have found patients with chronic disease may use spirituality or religiosity as a beneficial coping resource (Bussing et al., 2013). However, in this rural community, if a veteran does not have a church affiliation, spiritual needs are not addressed. Consequently, the nurse case manager’s knowledge of spiritual resources and referrals

After the wait-time scandal at the Arizona VA in 2014, the President Obama signed the law, the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (Public Law 113-146, “VACAA”) in order to improve access to health care for the Veterans in a timely manner with great bipartisan support (Branchely, 2014). This bill includes several initiatives to improve the current standards of care and decrease wait times. In order to urgently address the situation, the law recommends hiring more resources, introducing ways to promote timely care for Veterans, and increasing accountability. In The New York Times article, "Let's Take Better Care of Our Veterans", author Ricky Wells criticizes our politicians lack of compassion and care to give veterans the healthcare they need and deserve. Wells claims politicians readily send our military to war, but once they arrive back home, the Veteran Affairs (V.A.) system "drags their feet" to give them much further thought. The University…

Due to my Veterans Disability rating, I am required to attend scheduled medical appointments at the Veteran’s Administration Health Clinic . Sometimes I am unable to reschedule appointments because of the vast amount of veterans seeking medical attention such as myself. When possible, I try to schedule my appointments around school related obligations, mostly, these are routine appointments. There are those appointments that are specific that are administered by specialists, those are rarely or if ever flexible. However, occasionally I do not have the luxury of scheduling at my convenience and when that occurs I do so .…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

There are many factors that affected the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); from political, industrial, legal and economics together these external environment factors affected the way that veterans received their services. I will begin to describe how the VA was formed and illustrate how all the factors make what it is called today the Department of Veterans Affairs. The United States has the greatest complete system of assistance for Veterans in the world, this system goes back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. During that time the Pilgrims passed a law that declared that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. Over one hundred years later, the Continental Congress of 1776 stimulated enlistments during the Revolutionary War, by make available pensions to disabled soldiers.…

Collaborating for a Better Health Care Systems Minority communities and people from rural areas distrust health and other government systems due to a number of reasons. Zekeri and Habte research about perceived factors that influence disparities in health found that indicate that perceived racial discrimination, mistrust issues with Caucasians and mistrust with public institutions are major factors that influence disparities in health (Zekeri & Habte, (2006). Making health a culture means that we have to strengthen connections between our health care systems, public health systems, and the community. Health care providers and professionals who care for the patients will have a greater influence and impact if they are supported by infrastructures…

Is the government really granting veterans the health care and resources they need in order to survive once they arrive to their home land? Do you think that maybe just maybe the government focuses way too much attention towards funding the military instead of troops that have returned with some kind of disability or mental issue? I believe that the government is making a huge mistake on how they are granting health care towards a big group of individuals who fought for our country and for them not to be able to receive the proper care is a disgrace. These veterans should be established the best of care just for the simple fact that they have fought for our freedom and have gone through tough situations, which could be death related. The government as well does not offer enough…

There were 572,000 claims and 90,800 appeals nationally at the time ("introduction to do veterans receive adequate health care"1). This proves that many veterans are not getting coverage, and this is unfair because, veterans should be the first people to receive coverage since they were the people that went out risking their lives everyday so that regular citizens could live theirs. Finally, many veterans who live in rural areas cannot find health care. Having so many veterans living in rural areas, it is harder for those veterans to find good health care ("the government aims to improve health care access for rural veterans"1). If there were VA offices in rural towns, these veterans could get the health care that they need because there…

Healthcare disparities exist among racial/ethnic minorities in the United States. It 's a basic human right to receive the highest quality of care regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender, and the level of treatment or quality of care people receive should not be determined by their race or ethnicity. Although people are aware of this, yet not everyone gets the same quality of care or treatment in the U.S. The United States spends more money on healthcare delivery than most developed countries, and yet the quality of healthcare is lower than most of the developed countries due to healthcare disparities among racial/ethnic minorities (Lavizzo-Mourey, R., 2008). Racial/ethnic minorities are more likely to disproportionately suffer from healthcare…
