PTSD is a serious, potentially weakening condition that can occur in people that have experienced or witnessed traumatic or life-threatening situations; some of these situations include: serious accident, natural disaster, death of a loved one, and rape. The majority of people that experience these events recover from them; however, people with PTSD continue to be severely affected by these tragic situations for months and even years following. Women are twice as likely to develop this disorder as men, and children can also develop it. PTSD often occurs with depression, substance abuse, or other mental disorders. Victims of this serious disorder may have trouble with their friendships or close family relationships. Their symptoms can cause problems with closeness, communication, trust, and problem solving; this affects the way the survivor acts with others. After her father passes, Emily does not know where to turn because her father is all she had. She finds condolence, however, in Homer Barron. Homer intrigues her and she becomes very fond of him, eventually falling in love with him. She plans their wedding and becomes wholeheartedly engulfed in his love. It is strange to everyone, nonetheless, that he never comes back out of the Grierson home. Emily becomes very depressed and dejected; although no one knows, Homer has died in Emily’s home. This clearly traumatizes Emily and she does not feel like herself anymore. The situation that she goes through highly affects her and causes depression for
