The central city of the movie is a place for all animals, and Judy can experience how when she enters it. The movie cleverly creates it to accustom every type of animal, from having gerbil tubes for hamsters and smaller streets for rats, to having elevators to transport smoothies to towering giraffes. This attention to detail makes the setting feel like it functions well and is natural, which is perfect for a movie of this nature. Also, while Zootopia is a world created for animals, references to our regular world are continually made to make it feel surprisingly relatable. One illustration of this is in the city’s DMV. As many know, the DMV process is not one of the fastest. The movie recognizes this, and when Judy and Nick enter one, Judy is astounded to find sloths run it. It is not until near the end that Judy finally is accepted as a well-qualified cop as she solves the case, but there’s more to the mystery than she might have thought.
