Back in the times when public beheadings were merciful and the least barbaric execution method, the people loved gory stories filled with extreme emotion, but now in the twenty-first-century things have changed greatly. Shakespeare was famous for his comedies and tragedies, however, as morals and practices have developed the stories have had to develop too. To allow the modern audience to admire his creative ideas, adaptations were mad. The lion king is one adaptation targeted to children. Disney used many techniques to make it appropriate and enjoyable for children like having fun animal characters, simple age-appropriate versions of the topics of Hamlet, and incorporating songs.

Animals as characters make the macabre and melancholic scenes such as Mufasa’s death scene less upsetting to a younger audience and to symbolize the traits of the characters. Animal as symbols are easier to understand than human characters and due to connotations children can make assumptions about a character’s mannerisms. Witnessing murder was just a typical Tuesday for a toddler in Tudor times, but capital punishment is not even accepted as an option anymore in some countries.
