Disney World Comparison

Since I work at Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts, my options for the subject of this paper were very limited. Disney is extremely strict on what kind of information is released, so I couldn’t reorganize a stockroom – pictures backstage are off limits – I couldn’t produce a fashion show – I don’t work solely with apparel – and I couldn’t do anything that interfered with the visual merchandising department. With all that said, I decided to comparison shop Disney World and Universal Studios. I’ve been visiting Walt Disney World for years and years now, so when I decided to take a trip to Universal, it was a huge change for me. To me, Disney is this magical place where the outside world fades away once you enter; nothing really compares. …show more content…
Universal Studios has two parks, five resorts, and an entertainment district called Universal City Walk. Already, we can see the comparison; Disney World is massive compared to Universal. When it comes to immersing yourself in the worlds each park has set up, Disney has Universal beat again. Whether you’re in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, Villains in Vogue at Hollywood Studios, or Once Upon a Toy at Disney Springs, you are completely surrounded by theming and the atmosphere of each store. Each store has decorations from floor to ceiling appropriate to the theme and the cast members are wearing costumes to match. I found Universal to be successful in this immersion in only a few store. The Harry Potter stores, Honeyduke’s, Olivander’s, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes were incredibly themed and completely enveloped guests into the Harry Potter universe. The few Simpsons stores that were at Universal were also immersive. When it comes to guest service, however, Disney is the clear winner. When we are working, we are encouraged to greet every guest we see – most stores have a door greeter dedicated to this – and we are encouraged to ask every guest if they need help with anything. We offer our name and have a conversation with the guest if they have

In the article “Through the Window at Disney: A Lifetime of Brand Desire,” Susan Bennett and Marlis Schweitzer critically analyse a feature of Disneyland: the “Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique.” Bennet and Schweitzer offer detailed descriptions of the boutique while critically responding to the services it provides, such as the Princess makeover. The article gives evidence to suggest that the Princess makeover uses child consumer/models to embody the “Disney fantasy” in a crafty method of “brandscaping” (28, 25). Using this article as a reference, I will critically analyze scenes from Disney animated films such as The Princess and the Frog as well as some relevant Disney products and experiences. I will pay particular attention to the messages being…

For me, Nelson's comparisons of Disney's Epcot and the World's Fairs of 1893 and 1939 transformed the Fairs from alien events to tangible ones. I was able to recount my experiences at Epcot and develop a personal connection with the Fair's that inspired Disney as I read Nelson's passage. I remembered that when visiting Epcot, I am often attracted to the World Showcase rather than the mechanical and futuristic attractions in the other half of the park. While I have spent a decent amount of time visiting these attractions, I recognize that I am more engaged when strolling past an English pub or through a traditional Mexican marketplace. I think it is worth noting that Epcot's design was also inspired by the human brain.…

Walt Disney had a vision. He imagined an amusement park where children and their parents could enjoy rides and have fun together. But, when he was in an amusement park in the early twentieth century, he noticed that there were only random assortments of roller coasters, and how sanitation wasn't the greatest importance. Walt wanted a place where children and families could have fun together in a clean, orderly and fun way, and at an affordable price. He knew exactly what he wanted, and it would be called Disneyland.…

Disney is better family entertainment than Dream Works. Disney movies are clean movies with plots that the whole family will enjoy. Dream works has some not clean jokes in their movies and do not always have good messages for children. Disney movies however, are humorous, have fascinating plots, and the Disney animators (Also known as Disney imaginers) are creative and, have amazing, clear artistic abilities. Another reason why Disney is better than Dream Works is because of its music.…

Following the opening of the theme park, it resulted in the rise of the Disney craze in the city where Disney merchandising such as character-theme candies, clothing, jewellery, and even grooming products were sold in numerous local chain stores (Choi 2006). Furthermore, shopping mall decorations and major local festival celebrations such as mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year incorporated Disney icons as a marketing strategy. In particular, Hong Kong Disneyland is often packed with local and mainland visitors during Halloween, Christmas, the Lunar New Year and during ‘Golden Week’ in which the park has generated revenues of HK$5,114 million in 2015 (Disney 2016). Due to the success brought forth by glocalisation at Hong Kong Disneyland, it has led to the opening up of Shanghai Disneyland Resort in June 2016, allowing the Disney Company to further expand its consumer market in the Asian market, and ultimately adding weights to its cultural power. Nevertheless Hong Kong Disney demonstrates how theme parks can be a localised entertainment space that connote cultural attachments and also create a platform for commercial marketing that ultimately combine to benefit the region in which they are…
