Disney Sing Along Songs: An Intellectual Analysis

Literacy and I have a love-hate relationship. I want to love it, but at the same time, I hate how hard it is for me to read and write. I didn’t learn how to read until I was out of elementary school. It wasn’t until freshman year of high school that I learned how to write a structured paragraph. My teachers didn’t teach me how to read and write. They all taught the same way and it was not working. However, with the help of Disney Sing Along Songs: Zip a Dee Doo Dah VHS tape, I learned a different way to teach myself how to read and write.
When I first entered Kindergarten, I realized school was going to be a challenge for me. On the first day of class, Ms. Wilson made every single student take a spelling and reading test. So then later, she

Wilson told us what groups everyone got into. My classmates got into butterfly group #1, butterfly group #2, and butterfly group #3. I however, didn’t get into any of those groups. Ms. Wilson put me in a group all by myself. She told my parents is was because I was so behind compared to my classmates and that I would benefit from just having that one-on-one attention. My classmates bullied me the whole year for being in a group myself. They called me the “caterpillar group,” because I didn’t get my “wings” yet. After a couple of weeks of doing all the reading and spelling assignments Ms. Wilson gave me, she sent home a note with me to give to my parents. On the note it suggested I should get tested for Dyslexia and ADHD. Three months later, I got tested. The results said that I have ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Mixed Receptive-Expressive Language Disorder. Ms. Wilson was right! However, that didn’t stop Ms. Wilson from teaching me how to read and write the same way as she did before finding out I had learning differences. In fact, every single teacher in elementary school tried to teach me the same reading and spelling strategies as Ms. …show more content…
The first image I saw was a blue owl with black circular glasses. He said, “in case you need a helping hand. Here is Mickey Mouse to lead our band. So if some words you can’t recall. Follow Mickey, our bouncing ball.” All of the sudden the Mickey Mouse Club theme song started to play. I heard the song so many times because my younger sister, Juliana, liked going to sleep to Disney soundtracks. So I recognized the tune right off the bat. However, when the animals started singing the lyrics. A white water molecule looking Mickey Mouse would bounce on word when it was sung. After watching and singing three songs from the tape, I paused it and rewound it to sing the last three previous songs. After doing this about thirty times, I started recognizing the words on the screen. With the help of Disney music and visual moving picture, I started to recognize and memorize the song, which allowed me to see how word were spelt and read and especially how they could rhyme with each
