He constantly got the feeling that Gatsby was lying to him but rather than confront him or truly try to uncover Gatsby’s past he befriends him and helps him meet up with Daisy. While He persists that Jay Gatsby has “something gorgeous about him”(7) Gatsby is a bootlegger and is infatuated in Daisy wanting her commit adultery.In a more litteral sense is a liar making George Wilson believe he was selling a car he had no intrest in selling, while in reality going to the Wilson residence to meet see the man’s wife, his mistress.Even when confronting his Daisy and Gatsby’s affair Tom shouts adamantly ”"I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife. The Great Gatsby seems to have been written as a cautionary tale, everyone seems to have everything they want, but they need more or are numb to it.The completion of the American Dream was not as struggle for the Buchanan's and was only a stepping stone to a greater goal for Gatsby.Everyone lies even when it would ease a great deal of heartache if the truth was told at first.Finally though Gatsby put his entire life behind trying, it is impossible to erase or repeat the past and secrets cannot stay buried.Though their lives may seem perfect it is the humanity in the characters of The Great Gatsby that makes life
