If the grandmother was an honest woman to her family they all would have been alive. From the beginning the family should have known she was a liar and a manipulator (O’Connor, 34-45). The grandmother compared to The Misfit was the most dishonest character in the story. The grandmother even tried to manipulate The Misfit (O’Connor, 42-45). She thought she was a clever and honest woman, but she was nothing but a liar (O’Connor, 34-45). The Misfit knew she was just using kind words to have him fall for her tricks but he knew he was a bad man.
Honesty is important, especially in this story. If only the grandmother was honest, she and the family would have been alive (O’Connor, 34-45). The Misfit was the only honest character because he was up to no good and ending the family’s lives anyways. The family knew they were not going to make it out alive just from the way he talked to them and told his life story (O’Connor, 41-45). The death of the family was all caused by the grandmother being dishonest.
Flannery O’Connor’s story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” taught a good lesson in honesty. The grandmother should have been more honest just like The Misfit. The Misfit was an honest man, but not a good man and the family should have not listened to the grandmother. Honesty is important not only to the story, but to life in general. Therefore, people need to be more honest; it can end up getting someone in

O’Connor uses the passage above to show that in this story, grace is obtained from acts of evil and the use of violence is used to promote spiritual epiphany. In this case, the Grandmother’s true colors are seen in the minutes right before the Misfit utters those infamous words. Unable to believe that the Misfit might actually be as dishonorable as he seems to be, she speaks to The Misfit about the salvation of Jesus and seeing “good” in a murderer during the final moments of her life. Proving to the grandmother that even if she gives the Misfit money, she will still die. He sees himself as a higher power, nothing that the grandmother says would change him, for the simple reason that she is beneath him. She is merely a peasant and he is the king. O’Connor used diction to portray the Misfit as an uneducated man by the way he speaks and his use of slang. The irony in this is that the Misfit sees past religion, and is able…

In her short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”, Flannery O’Connor introduces the reader to a world of family issues, danger, and murder. The story was written in 1955 during a period of social and racial unrest in the southern United States. Mostly, the story follows O 'Connor 's basic Southern Gothic writing style, a work that is "cold and dispassionate, as well as almost absurdly stark and violent" (Galloway). While the quote gives major insight into the tone of the story, it does not offer a glimpse into O 'Connor 's real message of the story. Her take on the characters is a complex mixture of agreement and disapproval.…

A major theme of Flannery O 'Connor 's “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is what makes a person good. There is no clear answer, neither in the text nor in life. It is safe to say that a good person can be defined as one that is honest, kind, and always tries to do what is right. It is ironic then, maybe even a bit hypocritical, that the Grandmother is one of the most immoral characters in the story and yet she spends much of her time talking about what makes people good, judging others based on little to no information about them, and trying to convince the Misfit, a serial killer that just murdered her family, of his own goodness.…
