This essay will be about how the main character changes and becomes more corrupt because of capitalism and trying to survive. The main character will change to survive because in that period of time social darwinism is a problem. He eventually loses everything that he loved before he changes.
Jurgis is becoming dishonest because he has to in order to survive.He becomes more and more dishonest. He is lying, cheating, and stealing from everybody except his buddy Duane. His rationality for doing what he is doing is it is the only way for him to survive. It could also be that he has nothing to lose his wife and only son are dead. So he becomes a socialist and robs his way to the top. In the beginning Jurgis is quiet, anxious but as the story progresses
