Diseases In Licking County

Diseases can be spread in many ways that are not often thought about. One of these ways has become more prominent in the Licking County area. The issues with drug abuse in this county are on the rise and the existing programs are not enough to solve them. Diseases are being rapidly spread between people because those who are addicted do not have access to all of the essential supplies that they need to inject the drugs into themselves. Due to the lack of these supplies, they have resorted to sharing dirty needles that are contaminated with the blood of other users. When this blood is injected into another person's body, so many diseases are potentially being spread that can lead to an increase of deaths in the area. Some of these diseases include; Necrotising Fasciitis, Septic Thrombophlebitis, Thrombophlebitis, Cellulitis, Tetanus, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), and Hepatitis. Cellulitis is a common disease but it is a very serious bacterial skin infection. Thrombophlebitis is the inflammation of the wall of a vein. Tetanus is also a bacterial infection but it causes painful muscle spasms and can lead to death. Drug users would get tetanus from using old, rusty needles. A clean needle exchange program in Licking County can lead to the decline of the spreading of these diseases by providing users with access to clean needles and medical advice. Clean needle exchanges can also offer users an opportunity to learn how to safely use needles to inject drugs into their systems.
