The title of the text was Popular Mechanics. The text was about a conflict between a couple fighting over which one of them will take their baby. As the conflict escalates the truths of the relationship become more apparent.

I think the author’s view is that to not let bitterness overwhelm you. How I know that I think is expressed by the consequences of the the bitterness expressed by painting a horrific picture. In this case, the couple and their an innocent baby suffers from them fighting. Ultimately, causing serious injury to the baby or even death.

The evidence is valid because the actions taken are expressed explicit such as pulling on the baby’s arms as previously mentioned. The symbolism can act to reinforce that idea like the flowerpot breaking being symbolic of the relationship and thus what could happen to the baby.

I think the evidence is relevant because it paints a clear picture of the consequences of separating and bitterness. Without it I feel like the author wouldn’t have much of a story. By showing how the baby becomes more of an object the story illustrates how strong their bitterness is for one another

While I’ve never read this passage, I’ve read that, according to Sustana, “the struggle over a baby echoes the story of the Judgment of Solomon in the book of Kings in the Bible” (Sustana, 2015, para. 10). Apparently, this passage goes over how both parties want the baby, but unlike the story in the bible, this story doesn’t have a character who is selfless (Sustana, 2015, para. 12).
