I loved working in this class and seeing Amber’s work. This is the second class we been in together and her work is amazing, if you have more classes after this one good luck and keep up the amazing work. My discussion boards I have put a lot into them, but I know there are many areas that need improvement. I also need to remember if there is a word/s I don’t understand to look up what they mean so I can better with using the word in my discussion boards.

Reading Usually I enjoy reading (particularly math), however, this week was extremely rushed, due to personal responsibilities. As a consequence, I didn't give the first pass through the attention it deserved. This resulted in the need to reread significant portions in support of the quiz, and assignment questions. It was an exciting experience, and I feel I learned a lot from it – even if I have to go back to the PowerPoint (which was e-mailed to everyone in the class) to take better notes due to having forgotten my notebook at home. I had a lovely experience during the socratic seminar held in class. Prior to this seminar, I have participated in one in my Earth Science class. We had the guiding question of “Should we mine the moon?” and the class period went similar to ours. I personally adore public speaking when I am well prepared, so my contributions were out of pure enjoyment.…

According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…

My routine for completing virtual work varies. Either I do work wednesday night, do the work thursday morning, or procrastinate and start working a couple hours before the work is due. I take virtual work seriously, and accordingly try to start early so I can put my best work forward. Something that I will do sometimes is work on the day’s assignment all day taking long breaks in between when the times when I am actually focusing and working hard. I will have started and done the bulk of the work in the morning, yet still be stressed trying to finish up the work and turn it in on time.…

Board Meeting Journal Questions I have been at Wahlert for fifteen years and in that time I have never attended a board meeting. Part of the reason why was that I never felt a need too. The other portion of the reason was that I had been to enough meetings at the first school that I taught at because I was the union president. In that role, I was the constant presence at board meetings, grievance hearings, and contract negotiations. As I moved into a private school with no union, I was kind of tired of the whole process and there was not much of a role to walk into.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

Forum Reflection When posting to an online public forum, there is a responsibility that the users can either take or disregard completely. On the gun control forum that my group decided to use, there was a mixture of both responsible, well-mannered users, and disrespectful internet “trolls”. When I first went in to post my opinions on gun control, I thoroughly expected to get more of the later user responding. What was interesting, though, was that I was pleasantly surprised. Of all of my three posts, I didn’t get a single hateful comment or insult thrown my way.…
