1. Why did you choose this specialty/profession? My four years of JROTC in high school combined with public health research, sparked my interest in becoming a Public Health Officer in the U.S Air Force. 2.…
The purpose of this body of work was to address medication errors and safe medication administration practices in relation to practicing nurses and nursing students via several different approaches. These different approaches will be presented as three separate papers but interrelated themes. The specific purpose for each paper and the corresponding research questions were addressed individually in each chapter. The approach used in the first paper was a systematic literature search of medication administration errors and the pediatric population; five themes emerged including the incidence rate of medication administration errors, specific medications involved in medication administration errors and classification of the errors, why medication…
Because I am working with humans, I need full permission from the institutional review board to carry out my study. The institutional review board will inform me if my experiment is appropriate to continue, which may take up to a month to confirm. If my experiment does not pass the IRB, additional time for my experiment will be necessary to make proper and efficient adjustments. Each sample group is on the East Coast, however we do intend to travel to the location each research team is assigned too. Geographically, the sample groups are close and easy to communicate with through phones and emails.…
I had a lovely experience during the socratic seminar held in class. Prior to this seminar, I have participated in one in my Earth Science class. We had the guiding question of “Should we mine the moon?” and the class period went similar to ours. I personally adore public speaking when I am well prepared, so my contributions were out of pure enjoyment.…
Prior to this class, I had never even heard of pre-writing. However, this simple trick is very helpful when trying to begin a plan in your mind. Also, I had never physically made an outline to follow while writing a research paper. I would form a rough outline mentally but would always become scatter brained and forget what else I…
During the first few weeks of ENG 1301, we’ve learned the significance of learning rhetorical skills while writing; specifically, the rhetorical triangle - also known as ethos, pathos, and logos appeals. Whether you need to beg your parents for more gas money, or you want to receive a raise from that revolting fast food chain you’re forced to work at to pay college tuition, these appeals are the foundation of persuasion and can move an audience in any which way the author pleases to do so. In order to be accepted into a community, one must deeply understand the overall purpose and interests of the group. Once this happens, you’ll be able to intuitively understand the discourse community’s way of communicating and interacting with one another.…
According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…
I argue that societal norms, expectations, and gender roles impact gender inequality for women in the workplace and negatively result in the postponement of child bearing, large income gaps between genders, and delaying of marriage. Each one of these issues both separately and cohesively negatively impact the institution of family. Utilization of the social paradigm, symbolic interactionism, is displayed through research from Adams (2015), Bonnie (2011), Evers, Andrea and Monika Sieverding (2014), Harvard Summer School (2013), Herr, Jane L. and Catherine D. Wolfram (2012), North (2015), and Pedulla, David S. and Sarah Thébaud (2015). Reducing or eliminating gender inequality in the workplace will reduce family issues and make family bonds stronger.…
Reflection on Board Meeting I attended the St. Cloud Area School District 742 Board meeting on January 28, 2016, at 7 p.m. The meeting took place at the St. Cloud City Hall and chaired by Dr. Les Green. Other board members present were Al Dahlgren, Debbie Erickson, Bruce Hentges, Bruce Mohs, Jerry Von Korff, and Dennis Whipple.…
My previous experiences with peer response have not been as beneficial to me as teachers and myself would hope. In my English 111 class, my professor required the class to do peer responses in class where we had to read your partners paper aloud to him or her and then discuss what you liked/did not like about their paper. This made me very uncomfortable and gave me very little time to give a justified response to someone else's paper, so most of the time I just told my partner that their paper was well written. For the peer responses we did last week in class I found them to be much more beneficial in the sense that we were able to read another students draft "alone" and actually form an opinion and then fill out the peer response form alone.…
Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. Although other species may have audible forms of communication, man is able to record and document his thoughts, feelings, or events that have unfolded in a way that can be viewed multiple times without him having to use his voice over and over. Literacy is a skill that adults in the United States are expected to have; but the level of your literacy says a lot about you and can have a tremendous impact on what career you end up in. For this reason, this college English class is a requirement for all those seeking a degree. Not only did I learn how to think of subjects and topics more objectively, but I learned a multitude of different modes and strategies I can employ in my writing.…
When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…
Research Schedule Block 1: Getting started Select a topic or narrow a given topic. Determine the preliminary types of sources to use. Do preliminary research to discover the important issues. Organize research findings in computer files. Write a purpose statement or proposal.…
Introduction Throughout the past few weeks, communication in a fast food workplace was recorded and analysed. This report will summarise the experiences had and reflect on the interactions between multiple types of customers, co-workers and myself that occurred over the past work shifts. Summary These interactions all occurred in a fast food restaurant in the middle of a food court in a local shopping centre and usually only last up to 5 minutes when dealing with customers. Over the course of two 8-hour shifts on alternating weekends I came into contact with many different groups of people ranging in gender and age in my workplace, mainly my co-workers, different types of customers and my boss or manager.…
While going through the course work this semester I have begun to learn about the many different aspects of teaching. The first aspect was how to write a lesson plan. We started…
