He also claims “that the precariat is a class in the making, if not yet a class for itself.” The precariat consists of the people who lack the seven forms of labour related security, for example the individual does not have labour security (on zero hour contracts), also they do not have skill reproduction security (they will not gain any skills to help them get promotions and move up the social ladder). Standing discusses that the ‘Precariat’ is a direct outcome of globalization. This is because globalization opened up labour markets making them international, this then strengthening the bargaining position of capital against workers, then as a result of this workers lost power and status thus pushing them further down the social hierarchy.
