Discuss The Role Of A Director In Health Information Management

A role that interest me is the Director of Health Information Management (HIM). The idea of being responsible for so much intrigues me. The responsibilities of a HIM Director are endless. I choose to write about this role because of the many subjects it entails. The Director of HIM not only oversees various projects but as technology develops, new standards arrive. One must always embrace change and the challenges that come with the Director of HIM role.
The Director in Health Information Management role consist of overseeing a wide variety of projects. The HIM directors play a part in several key areas and the position doesn’t seem to be getting any easier as technology has its impact on the next generation of HIM professionals. The HIM director plays a role in the adoption of the Electronic Health Record (EHR), collaborative governance, interoperability, and in privacy and security. The Director of HIM may even help to design or implement a new health information systems. The Director’s role continues to grow and is ensured to grow within the next few years

The Director of HIM is responsible for ensuring patient information is secure, improving healthcare quality, reducing healthcare cost by reducing medical error, providing information to help guide medical decisions making, and facilitating health and clinical research. The Director of HIM holds several roles and their days can consist of monitoring/participating in developments of HIM systems to overseeing coding practices. With technology continuing to rise, our healthcare system will continue to advance and Directors of HIM will continue to see job descriptions change and
