Discuss The Meaning Of The Poem Kinky By Dennis Shamel Analysis

Improved Essays
I would like to begin by saying, the poem Kinky is part of a book with the same name, and it is the most popular written by Denise Duhamel. Also, most of her poem, including this one, are characterized by been feminist, humoristic, heretic, and the use of literary devices, such as extended metaphor, imagery, theme, to convey meaning.
With that been said, we can go to the other side of the coin. My understanding of the poem is a doll and a toy attempting to fit into the real world, the prolonged abuse of being imaginary, and what they want to do to one to another. Also, the way the author uses metaphors make it more interesting, and it transmit me the poem metaphors are reflected on a real person. For example, the use of “Barbie and Ken vowed

In the poem that I was reading this week called “The Secretary Chant” By Marge Piercy. I feel that after reading it that it’s talking about how the working women were valued in the 60s and 70s, also how women felt dehumanized when it came to their work. The reason for this is because in the poem the woman describes herself as all the different supplies in an office. So in a way she is making herself her work. (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012)…

People strive for achieving acceptance or beauty so that society could accept them. This strive though, has come at a cost and leads people to drastic measures such as depression, self-harm, or serious health issues like starvation or excessive exercising. In the two poems “Hanging Fire” and “Barbie Doll”, the two teenagers struggle with acceptance and both end up with serious consequences trying to gain them. In a teenager age, they are more vulnerable as they are trying to figure out who they are as a person. This leaves them in a fragile state and each judgement has more of an impact than it normally would.…

However, we see it even more as we delve deeper into the poem. It is with words and phrases such as “sweet death” and “enduring life” that the author so vividly describes the contrast between a baby and his parents. The author uses his choice of vocabulary to effect the reader. He wants to make them truly understand what he is feeling, and what he is trying to make them feel as well. He also uses his word order to move the poem in certain directions.…

Heraclitus, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher describes change as “the only constant in life”. It is an unavoidable process of life and failure to constantly adapt and amend to inevitable change has negative effects. In the 1955 play Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, Australian playwright Ray Lawler, depicts how changes to our everyday life force us to re-evaluate who we are and what our future holds. Whether that change comes to group dynamics; or with age, we have to reconsider our dreams, our aspirations and relationships. Similarly, Robert Frost in his poem…

To begin with, symbolism is a powerful tool incorporated into plays that can be utilized for different purposes. In Doll’s House, a predominant symbol is the Christmas tree that is delivered to Nora’s house. The simple explicit message is that the tree coveys to readers that Christmas is approaching. It is a festive object meant to serve as a decorative and symbolizes family happiness and unity. However, the Christmas tree is more than just a festive object.…

The story of a doll’s house is a story that marks the transition of a female from a figure that is controlled by her husband’s expectations to an individual with his own beliefs. In a time where a woman was expected to follow her husband or father’s beliefs and orders, for a woman like Nora to have her own beliefs that contradicted the beliefs of the men around her is dangerous. Nora described that patriarchal society to her husband by saying “ Yes, it is so, Torvald. While I was at home with father, he used to tell me all his opinions, and I held the same opinions.
