1.2 What Grade 3 RME theme/topic does the above picture suit and why is it appropriate?
Theme: Belonging
This picture is appropriate to theme Belonging as it illustrates the togetherness of a community where each person contributes positive energy towards one another.
1.3 Use the above picture to come up with an activity for Grade 2 learners.
Activity: Each learner should illustrate their Community on an A4 paper. They can color or paint their drawing as they desire. Each learner can put up their Community illustration the classroom and tell the learners orally of their experiences and connections with the other people in their Community. “Has a friend treated you badly?”, “Has someone broken your trust?” When one asks questions whether they are hurtful or happy memories one can explore a person’s real emotions/feelings if they share a similar experience. People learn from other peoples experiences.
4.2 Discuss how the two friends demonstrated their emotional intelligence towards each other.
One has to consider the age of the two friends to determine their emotional intelligence level. Emotional intelligence is linked to age and past experiences. I would guess that the two girls are about 9/10 years old; I say this because they “bought the same dresses. They ate the same food….” as indicated in the story. This shows us that they are connected on an emotional level and find inspiration in each other. They are very fond of each other and trusted one another.
The fact that the girls insist that the man speaks to both at them at the same time suggests that they are unsure of their feelings when they are split up. The girl that suggests that they should be spoken to together is emotionally stronger and rules the friendship. Therefore the man whispered in the shy less emotional girls ear “you, you, you, you”. He knew that once the other girl came back she would want to know what the man said to her. As the story indicates, it caused havoc between the …show more content…
This indicates that the girls are not yet at an emotional level where they can make decisions based out of experiences they already had. They would rather end their friendship than solve the problem.
4.3 How would you tell the learners about right and wrong behavior in this story?
Right Behavior:
• The girls insisted that the man speak to them together, this is such a good moral because you never leave your friend with a stranger.
• The girls were really good friends, this is good for emotional intelligence, as they share the same interests and learn through one another’s experiences.
• It is important to see that it does not matter whether someone accuses you of lying or does not want to be your friend; you always stick to the truth of a story.
Wrong Behavior:
• It was wrong of the young man to approach the girls; he has no right as a stranger to talk to under aged girls.
• It was also wrong of the second girl to call the first girl a liar, this shows that she doubts her own morals.
• The second girl also portrays jealousy because she cannot accept the answer from the second girl. She wants the story to be about her and not her
