In December of 1963 just six months before their graduation there was a headline in the Harvard Law Record titles “Women Unwanted.” There was an article describing surveys given to law firms rating what they look for in the interview process and being a woman ranked negative numbers in both large and small firms in all regions that were surveyed. One woman shared her experience with the paper and said “…the lawyer said after a couple minutes ‘We’re mot prejudice against women, but we have three positions to fill and we think we can find three men to fill them.’” The most common job for a woman in the early 60s were teachers, nurses and secretaries and and even then was it rare to see a woman. There was a woman by the name of Jo Freeman who attended Berkley reported that she had never seen nor noticed there ever being a female professor. There was another instance about a teenager, Angela Nolfi, who consulted with her guidance counselor about wanting to be an interior designer and although that was though to be a feminine approach the guidance counselor, a man, thought it was to risky and request she be a home economics
