During class we also learned about the abuse of authoritative power in the police and other government positions. The first example would be a scene where police would abuse against black freedom activists. In a later scene in the movie, the high-pressure hoses used by firefighters was being used against these people knocking them down and wounding them. During all these examples, Louis has been present. Sadly, Cecil cannot take a part (that is until later in the movie) in the fight for rights in risk of losing his job as butler at the White House. A more recent example would be the Black Lives Matter movement (created in 2012 in response to the murder of George Zimmerman) with the same reasoning. In conclusion, this movie discusses many important events leading to the rights of African Americans and help eliminate segregation and discrimination. In this movie we follow the life of Cecil who goes through the many stepping stones to change in just one lifetime. Hopefully the United States can learn from their past mistakes and can be more accepting to others and avoid the horrible segregation. Although some may take these rights for granted, after seeing this movie you learn to appreciate what our recent past has fought
