Today, discrimination is still seen widespread in the United States. From public figures to the workplace to school, there is always a report of discrimination that is going on every time you read the news. On February 26, 2012 an African-American teen named Trayvon Martin from Sanford Florida was walking home from a convenience store and was shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in a case he claimed was self-defense. This caused outrage around the country but when it came down to the courtroom, the verdict was not guilty from a jury that had only one non-white member. Events like these are changing the image of our nation for the worse. Similarly, in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird discrimination in the town of Maycomb changed
