Specifically, research that focuses on the experiences of African American women engineering students should be expanded past the following limitations. Since coming to college, I have noticed that not all majors have an equal representation of both men and women. Though women have gained more rights and equality over the years, the values and beliefs of women’s role in society deeply impacted me growing up. I was told by strangers and former teachers that it did not matter how hard I worked because I would only take care of children and my husband in the future. Freedom of race discrimination regarding employment is overseen by both state and federal statutes, but businesses that discriminate in their dealings with other businesses are not ruled under federal law, and state laws may be unsuccessful. No federal statute ever has been implemented specifically to prohibition racial discrimination in private commercial dealings between two business firms. Any female in the STEM field goes in knowing that she will be a part of the minority. Most girls are told be prepared to be in classes where the majority is boys. Most adults tell them that they should not get distracted by the boys, and their fellow girls say that they are so lucky to be surrounded by boys.
