“No change can come if those who are impacted the most by discrimination are not willing to stand up for themselves” (Salbi). Discrimination can change a person in many ways, it can make them feel at a lower point than someone and it can also affect the way they do things and create a big change in their perspective on life. In the book Of Mice and Men a lot of discrimination occurred in this time period. This was normal to their times, but it also changed the way some of the characters thought and changed their actions. He was treated at a lower level and he felt as if he had to depend on others to make decisions. Lennie struggled with a problem anything he saw that was soft he has to touch it, and this problem got to a point where he grabbed a girls dress and almost pulled it off of her. An example of discrimination towards Lennie is when Georege says to him, “‘Now, look-i’ll give him the work tickets, but you ain’t gonna say a word. You jus’ stand there and don’t say nothing. If he finds out what a crazy bastard you are, we won’t get no job”’ (stienbeck 4). George is telling Lennie he can’t talk to the boss when they are trying to get a job because he beleives that lennie ruins their oppertunities because of him being slow minded. . George and Lennie had to move away from their other job because Lennie had messed up and almost pulled off a ladies dress. When George tells Lennie he can not talk Lennie does not get why this tends to make him sad and feel like he is not a typical person he feels different. This affects Lennie because he is always getting told what he has to do so this makes him dependent on George for directions like he is a little kid.
