Pete Campbell carries the characteristic of being egotistical. In the episode, Pete Campbell admitted to being part of buying air time for laxative commercials in order to block John F. Kennedy’s air time for the future president’s campaign to Pete’s bosses from Sterling Cooper. After Pete’s bosses congratulate Campbell for shooting the brilliant idea, Pete continues on by commenting to Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) “Peggy, you want to write that down? Don said congratulations. Are we done here?” Instead of simply replying with a thank you to Pete’s bosses, Pete is completely cocky, leading Pete to ridicule Peggy by implying that Peggy did not understand what was occurring at the moment. Pete attacked Peggy in a disrespectful manner while sitting down quietly, and still having the audacity to ridicule Peggy after Pete had an affair with Peggy.
