Discrimination In Lakewood

Many people, even today sadly, are discriminated against because of who they are and things they cannot help. We have come a long way but are still not where we should be at with the issue. People are being refused services because of their nationality, sexual orientation, and many other things that are out of that individuals control. It is ridiculous that even now in 2017 people are being discriminated against and are not given equal rights because of the person they are. In Lakewood, Colorado, about five years, a gay couple who were about to get married were looking for a bakery to bake them a wedding cake for their day came across a business that refused them the service. Jack Phillips the baker who refused to make a wedding cake David Mullins and Charlie Craig said it was against his religion and what he believes in so he simply turned them away. Earlier this year an Asian American women booked a home on the Airbnb website for her and her husband. When the owner realized that the woman was Asian she declined her booking at the last minute. This very quickly became a court case and the woman who refused her Airbnb home was charged a five thousand dollar fine and required to take a class on Asian American studies. (Wang). It sad to see that this woman was refused a rental home because of her ethnicity even though she has been living in the United States since she was one a few years old. Even if she was not an American citizen it is still wrong to discriminate someone because of where they are from or what they look like. Discrimination is sadly a huge problem in our world and should not be as big of an issue as it is. We need to keep fighting for equal rights so everyone can live the same and
