After working for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 19 years, Ledbetter finally found out she was being paid not nearly as much as her male workmates and produced to sue the tire company (Wolfe). At Goodyear, she was constantly a victim of sexual discrimination, and eventually ended up testifying before congress in 1998 about her EEOC complaint of sexual discrimination (Wolfe). After her complaint, her manager, the perpetrator of the abuse, was reassigned but her unfair treatment only got worse, resulting in isolation from other coworkers (Wolfe). Later, Lilly signed a contract with her manager stating that she would not discuss her salary with other workers (Wolfe). It wasn’t until she was starting to think about retiring when she received an anonymous note in 1998 (Marino). Written on the note was her salary, and 3 other salaries of men working the same job with her (Marino). The men were all making $4,286 to $5,236 per month while Lilly only received $3,727 per month
