They are not able to do anything themselves and has someone doing it for them. Loss independence can be normal things such as going toilet, eating and standing up or sitting down. It is when you rely or need assistance of someone to do these activities. For example being disabled and you are discriminated the effects would be that you are made to feel dependant and a work overload on someone and so this also leads to losing motivation to help themselves.
