Presently women and minorities still encounter prejudice employers. Having a different skin tone or simply a foreign name could result in an individual being less likely to receive a preferred job position. In certain cases this results in individuals being forced to accept undesirable positions with meager pay. When different groups of people came from different countries they tended to congregate in communities. Even in big cities people gathered with others that came from the same background. That’s why we have china town and little Italy. Even whole states were made up of one group of people such as Utah and Wisconsin. Because groups of people didn’t intermingle with other groups of people they felt uncomfortable and that leads to discrimination. As faster transportation became available and individuals migrated for better jobs people tended to mix together and understand each other better. Most large companies and government services have zero tolerance for any forms of discrimination which creates an environment of equality for most American workers. Many laws have been enacted to support equality for workers, however, since we’re all human and bring different viewpoints to the table discrimination still exists. Sometimes it’s not even intentional we still live in a world where people make judgments on other people and try to use a sense of superiority to oppress people based on gender and race. This is all part a continued progression where hopefully all people will be treated equally in the
