On the news you hear of politicians wanting to keep illegal immigrants out of our country and send ones that have already made it here, home. This could be a reasonable plan, except now when people see Mexicans in America, they consider them illegal and in some cases say rude things to them. A 3rd generation Mexican American named Nick Valencia was at a music festival in Atlanta near his home and he had an unfortunate encounter with a fellow American. Nick explains what a young woman said, “‘Go home!’ she yelled at me. ‘Why don't you go back home to Mexico before you ruin this country like you ruined your own!’”(http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/29/opinion/valencia-racism-latino/). All he was doing was having a fun time with friends and somebody felt the need to ruin his day by attacking him like this. He was later told by his family that people of his race have to put up with this all day. They don’t get treated with respect like they should and they can’t do anything about it. Valencia also states. “As if ‘go home’ wasn't clear enough, the woman -- a 20-something Caucasian -- repeated the words in Spanish. ‘Vete!’”(http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/29/opinion/valencia-racism-latino/). Vete is the spanish translation of saying go away or leave. The woman was just assuming that he might not speak english because of how he looks.
