What is discrimination?
Discrimination is a treatment or consideration of making a discrepancy in favor or against a person based on the group, class, or category that person is belong to rather than their individual merit. Discrimination can be occurred in various forms. For example: Unsuitable jokes, impolite comments, disrespectful to someone based on their gender or body shape, calling someone by rude/mean words rather than the individual’s name.
In United States the context of civil rights law, unlawful discrimination refers to unfair or unequal treatment of an individual based on certain features, including:
1) Age
2) Disability
3) Ethnicity
4) Gender
5) Marital status
6) Pregnancy
7) National origin
8) Race
9) Religion
10) Sexual

The law only protects people over 40 years old but same types of discrimination happens to younger people as well. Disability discrimination is inequality because of employers physical or mental disability. Ethnic discrimination is harassing someone because of their ethnicity. Gender discrimination is a bias or stereotypical mentality like females cannot drive properly or nursing is not a job for males. Marital status discrimination is when officials consider about employees’ personal life such as if they are married, widowed, divorced, single or unmarried with a same-sex or opposite-sex partner and critic them upon the information at workplace. Pregnancy discrimination occurs when childbirth or related medical conditions are considered as a problem. National origin discrimination is another stereotypical harassment when employees feel unwanted because they are from a certain country or part of the world. Race discrimination arises when employees feel they are not getting equal environment as human race and skin color is the only reason behind the unfair treatment. Religion discrimination happens when someone go through harassment because of their religious practice, Islamophobia is a common example. Sexual orientation discrimination is when individuals are being judged for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, pansexual, or straight.
