First of all there is not a lot of diversity at Lee or even in Cleveland. I do not think this is anyone’s fault or that it is done on purpose. This is just the way things are. Second I do not think I have seen or experienced any extreme form of discrimination to the point where it has harmed someone. I do believe that there is a lot of unintentional discrimination that is said. People are quick to make assumptions about certain groups. They do not always realize what they are saying. It tends to be simple ignorance. This of course is not an excuse. At Lee, I do see that whatever ethnic group we have tended stay together. It becomes almost a base of sorts. I do not think this is any form of discrimination. It does not mean they do not mingle with other groups. Individually, everyone has his or her own mix of friends. I think Lee tries it’s best to diversify with the different clubs. These clubs give people a chance to get to know each other and understand each other’s culture. The one place that that think there is blatant racism is on Yik Yak. Because it is anonymous, people feel like they are free to say what they want. It becomes a channel of hate or misunderstanding. I haven’t ventured much into Cleveland to feel any form of discrimination. I imagine because it is outside of the Lee bubble, it is hidden by Christian acts. I think my first responsibility is to make sure I am not discriminating anyone. I need to watch what I am thinking and how I am looking at someone. I…
