Drinking alcohol is viewed as acceptable as long as people stay within what society’s rules and regulations. The positivists know that alcoholism is real; it happens and is caused by many factors which include biological, psychological and sociological. The two positivists theories, the Anomie or Strain theory and the Disassociation and Learning Theory supports the fact that people who do not reach their goals have more of a tendency to become addicted to illicit drugs and alcohol as well as be labeled as deviant due to their alcoholism. Disassociation theory supports that alcoholism is a learned behavior and Strain theory supports that people turn to alcohol due to not living the “American Dream”. Because of the alcohol consumption many deviant and criminal acts are executed like sexual assault, assault and battery, criminal behaviors like theft and others.
