Discrimination And Discrimination In Society

Discrimination occurs all over the united states, due to discrimination there cannot be an equal society. An equal society is when a lot of people no matter race or gender live in a non-discriminating area. Many years have passed since the rough times of discrimination and slavery towards African Americans yet the legal status has hardly evolved. Although African Americans and other races have the same rights as whites, they are still being discriminated against. Although America has come a long way to stop racism and fight for equality, we cannot live in an equal society due to those who oppose it. Even though the government tries to cut down bullying, it still happens in school campuses when African Americans are bullied not only physically, emotionally, and mentally but as well for their color by kids of distinguished race. According to Martin Luther King, Jr. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. In other words, King believes in children of different race being able to interact with one another without being criticized. Harassment by teachers also occur in school such as unfair grading and favoritism. There have been cases where teachers use favoritism towards a student of their own race to discriminate students of different races. Harassment by administrators is also a major issue in school grounds because there is a higher chance that a student becomes suspended or expelled. Individuals such as African Americans encounter racial bias when seeking for a job. African Americans feel that they were being payed less and had a lower advancement in jobs than whites and after all of their struggles they kept seeking for jobs, never giving up. Martin Luther King, Jr. states, “and as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead”. In making this comment, King urges us to know that no matter what we should always strive for more. Discriminating employers make African American applicants as if they are not qualified for the job. Also, in most jobs they are treated differently than any other workers. Another act of discrimination towards African Americans is when they are working and they get glared at by customers, because they think they’re not compatible enough for the job nor yet have experience
